Guedel oropharyngeal airways that hold the tongue clear of the pharynx in an unconscious patient.
Overview
Guedel airways are curved, rigid oropharyngeal airways inserted into the mouth of an unconscious patient to stop the tongue falling back and obstructing the pharynx, keeping a clear path for bag-mask ventilation. The reinforced bite block at the flange resists occlusion, and the colour-coded sizing lets staff select the correct length quickly against the distance from the incisors to the angle of the jaw.
Supplied sterile and single-use across the full size range from neonatal to large adult, they are stocked on crash carts, ambulances, and anaesthesia trolleys.
