Overview
Sutures close wounds and approximate tissue during surgery and in emergency and outpatient settings, with the choice of material driven by how long the tissue needs support. Absorbable sutures break down over a predictable period and are used where a second visit for removal is impractical, while non-absorbable materials such as silk, nylon, and polypropylene stay in place for skin closure and tissue that heals slowly.
Each strand is supplied sterile in a foil pack, swaged to a needle in the appropriate curvature and point profile, and stocked across the range of gauges used in theatre and minor procedures.
