Overview
Surgical scrubs are the tunic-and-trouser suits worn as the standard base layer inside an operating department, changed into at the theatre boundary so outdoor clothing and its contamination stay outside the restricted area. The plain, close-fitting cut has minimal seams and pockets to trap fewer particles, and the fabric is chosen to hold up through repeated hot-wash laundering or to be worn once and disposed of.
Supplied in a range of sizes and colours so departments can distinguish roles, they are worn under a sterile gown for operative work.
