Overview
A dialysis patient is exposed to several hundred litres of water a week across the dialyser membrane, so the water feeding a renal unit has to be treated to a standard far beyond drinking water. This plant produces 250 litres an hour of dialysis-grade water by reverse osmosis, sized for a smaller unit running a handful of stations.
Treatment removes dissolved salts, organic contaminants, bacteria and endotoxin that would otherwise pass into the dialysate. Pre-treatment stages protect the reverse osmosis membrane from chlorine and particulate, which is what determines how long that membrane lasts in service.

Water quality testing forms part of commissioning, and operator training is delivered to the staff who will use it day to day.
