The BBR-4V296 is the main storage refrigerator in a blood bank, holding whole blood and red cell concentrate at 4±2 degrees C — the 2 to 6 degrees C band required for safe red cell storage. A microprocessor controller holds temperature to 0.1 degree C accuracy with uniformity within 1.5 degrees C, so there are no warm corners, and forced-air refrigeration on CFC-free R134a cools the cabinet to 5 degrees C within 70 minutes even in a 32 degree C room, recovering to 6 degrees C within 15 minutes of a door opening.
The interior is stainless steel for easy cleaning after a blood spill, and the exterior carries an anti-bacterial coating. An electrically heated glass outer door stays frost-free so stock can be read without opening, and three transparent acrylic inner doors mean only one basket is exposed at a time, cutting cold loss by around 70 per cent. Four adjustable shelves and twelve baskets hold up to 156 blood bags of 450ml, on castors.
Audio and visual alarms cover high and low temperature, sensor failure, system failure, door ajar, and power loss.
