Platelets have to be held at around 22 degrees C under constant gentle agitation; left still, they aggregate and lose viability. The PR-10 Ultra agitator sits inside the PI-10 Ultra incubator to provide both conditions in one installation.
The agitator runs a to-and-fro stroke of 38 ±2mm at 60 to 80 strokes per minute — 70 to 80 is the usual working setting — continuously and jerk-free, keeping platelets oxygenated without mechanical damage. Nine perforated, corrosion-resistant pull-out shelves allow uniform air circulation so every bag sits at the same temperature, and let staff organise inventory by blood group. Capacity is 54 random donor platelet bags or 48 apheresis bags, and at 440 x 410 x 395mm the agitator fits precisely inside the PI-10 incubator.
A push button pauses agitation so a bag can be removed and then resumes, and the slide runs on a heavy-duty geared motor built for continuous duty.
